Internet fights are a joke. They are petty, annoying, and 100% a waste of time. I can’t stand them.
Recently my country, America, had a Supreme Court ruling that gay marriage will now be legal in all 50 states. This implemented an uproar of opinions and started a whole lot of ignorant arguments on social media.
Now I’m all for debates, but what I saw on the Internet after the first few days was actually embarrassing. I saw ignorant posts and numerous insults and that is why my opinion will not be stated in this article. It is irrelevant to the purpose of this post, which is this…
NOBODY IS RIGHT. NOBODY IS WRONG.
That is the beauty of living in America! You get the freedom to believe in whatever you want and to do so with pride.
But this is where it gets tricky, you see. Some people DO believe they are right and will do anything in their power to make sure everyone is aware of it. This starts arguments from BOTH sides which leads to people feeling attacked and belittled.
Why are some people so close minded? I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinion, but if you’re so uptight about it that you harass, insult, attack, or hurt another person simply because you disagree with their beliefs, I WILL not respect it. You can have your opinion, but I will not respect you for it.
If you’re for gay marriage then great, more power to you. If you are against it then that’s great, too! Stick to your beliefs but for the love of EVERYTHING, DO NOT attack other people for opposing you! I have seen both sides being attacked and that is NOT okay!
Sometimes I am proud to be an American and other times I’m embarrassed. I wish that our melting pot of races could match our melting pot of beliefs. Why is America so bad at catching up with the rest of modern civilization? Maybe someday.
A person being a conservative or a liberal does not have an affect on me. I don’t care what specifically your beliefs are but I care how you come about them. Disrespectful people get zero respect from me and that comes from both sides. Listen and debate. Say intelligent statements, not insults or hurtful words.
Am I a conservative, or a liberal? Am I for or against the subject? More importantly, did I win? Does it matter?
My answer? Nobody wins.
